Flames for Home & Hearth began in 1979 when Bob Boyles began doing chimney sweeping and stove installations as "Grand Lake Chimney Sweep" in Grove, Oklahoma.
In 1988 Bob and Sue Boyles opened "Grand Lake Chimney & Fireside" a retail stove & fireplace store in Grove, OK. Their goal was to provide the highest quality hearth products and service with absolutely no compromise of safety.
In 1995 the store moved to a 1200 square foot showroom at 7th & St. Louis in Joplin, MO. and was given a new name, "Flames for Home & Hearth".
The goal was still "Quality and service without compromising safety".
In 1996, Shane Spence joined "Flames" and soon became the head installer and service technician. He is certified with the "National Fireplace Institute" and regularly attends specialized factory training and continuing education programs. Shane also provides in-home fireplace and stove inspections, evaluations and estimates.
In 1998, Brooke Fairman worked part time at "Flames" as a sales clerk while studying at MSSU. When she got her accounting degree in 2002, she went to work full time at "Flames" as a showroom sales specialist frequently attending factory training and continuing education.
In 1999 "Flames" moved to a 3500 square foot building at 32nd & Main Street in Joplin. It soon became known for the more than two dozen working fireplaces and stoves on display.
In 2007, the Missouri Department of Transportation began widening the intersection at 32nd & Main, which required the demolition of the "Flames" store there.
It was time to move again!
On January 1, 2008 "Flames for Home & Hearth" re-opened at 4601 South Range Line Rd (just 1/2 mile south of I-44). The 4,600 square foot showroom has over three dozen burning displays as well as many additional models of stoves, inserts and fireplaces.
In 2020, Jonathan Elledge joined the "Flames" family as a fireplace installer and service technician. He is currently certified with the "National Fireplace Institute" and also attends factory training, seminars and continuing education programs.
In March 2022 Bob & Sue Boyles officially retired and the business was passed on to Shane and Brooke. The store still has the same philosophy of providing the highest quality hearth products and service without compromising safety.
You are invited to visit our showroom. We can show you many design ideas, as well as let you see the fire and feel the heat from real burning displays. Don't forget to check out our selection of fireplace tool sets, glass doors, hearth rugs, steamers, fire screens, replacement parts, grates, stove pipe, chimneys and caps - just to mention a few things.
